Elizabeth Chafcouloff is a speech-language pathologist specializing in the management of swallowing disorders (dysphagia) in adults. In 2014, she founded the nonprofit, Speech Therapy Cambodia, with the mission of introducing education in speech therapy to a country where the profession does not exist. The principal focus of the organization thus far has been on training Cambodian doctors, nurses, and physical therapists in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders in three major hospitals in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This year, Speech Therapy Cambodia is inaugurating Cambodia's first post-graduate university certificate course in dysphagia--a year-long, part-time course for working medical professionals.
